With the exception of the 2011 vintage, each year since 1997, Kilikanoon have released the iconic Oracle Shiraz. Crafted from old vine fruit grown along the Golden Hillside in Leasingham, it continues to display the opulence, regional character and varietal power the valley is so renown for.
Low yielding parcels of Shiraz were selected from each vineyard based on concentration of flavours. Each parcel was then vinified separately using traditional winemaking techniques, before being aged for eighteen months in a careful selection of new and seasoned French oak casks.
Dark red in colour with youthful crimson highlights. Enjoy the nose layers of black olive tapenade and forest berries with liquorice, cinnamon and clove. Rich and powerful palate dark berries and bright red fruits up front that give way to savoury charcuterie with hints of dark chocolate and sweet spice. Fine, powdery tannins give length and drive to the fruit before a velvety finish.
Kilikanoon Winery, based at Penwortham, was established in 1997 by Kevin Mitchell, an Adelaide University graduate and a Clare Valley winemaker down to his bootstraps. Initially the wines were based on Kilikanoons Golden Hillside suite of contiguous vineyards planted by Kevins father Mort during the 1960s and 1970s. Low input viticulture and traditional winemaking techniques are extensively employed evoking the idea of hand-made wines. Fastidious attention to detail and a burning ambition to make wines with clear regional definition and individual personality has quickly established Kilikanoon as one of Clares top producers.
