Les Peyres Levades is a pretty special wine. It comes from a single block of vines just over half a hectare in size, planted more than 60 years ago on Cahors' famous limestone soil (Julien says this particular spot has the purest limestone) and 320 metres above sea level. Fermentation happens in small stainless steel tanks, then the wine spends two years in old, big, 500-litre French oak barrels. This is so fresh, floral and cherry aroma, masses of fruit on the palate, lots of structure and finishing fresh as a daisy - as well as lasting very long in the mouth. A total triumph, and one of Cahors' finest red wines.
"A pure charmer from Cahors: lifted, fresh cherry-damson scents with an almost creamy amplitude to the fruit. Weighty and full in the mouth, this is very primary, fruit-forward and absolutely jumping with juiciness. Just a faint touch of grassiness, but for many that would add to the freshness." 93 points.
