Following the wine-growing tradition of his Castilian ancestors, Carlos Moro made his dream come true, and in 1988 he founded the Matarromera bodega in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) with a clear goal in mind: to prepare quality wines with the most advanced technology and the traditional cooking methods. Sustainability is very important to Grupo Matarromera and the Matarromera Group was chosen in 2007 by IESE [Institute of Higher Business Studies] as the most environmentally friendly organization in Spain. The winery currently generates more energy than it consumes.

The Matarromera Esencia (2020) represents the entire history of Matarromera in a fantastic blend of the best Matarromera wines of all time. This wine is composed of the 1994 Matarromera, awarded as the best wine in the world (gold medal in the International Wine Competition), the 1995 Matarromera (awarded the Great Gold Bacchus) and the 1996 Matarromera, an excellent vintage for Matarromera. These vintages are perfectly blended to reveal the genius, longevity and essence of the vineyards. Matarromera's long drinking window reaches its maximum expression here, with some aromas that belong to the aging process of these special vintages, while the fruitiness of this Tempranillo is still surprisingly intact.

In the glass, this wine has a characteristic brick red color, is very fine and complex on the nose, with a perfect harmony of aromas such as spices, new leather, soft pipe tobacco, surprisingly fresh red fruit, beeswax and soft toffee. In the mouth we find a fine structure of round tannins with an excellent complexity of flavors and a very surprising freshness ending in a long and very elegant finish.
