A delicious dry white wine made from the popular Sauvignon Blanc grape. This pale straw yellow colored "First Lady" Sauvignon Blanc from the South African top wine house Warwick smells exotic with lots of tropical fruit, guava, peach and gooseberries. The wine is soft and juicy in taste, dry and mild, has good acids and can be characterized as stimulating, tasteful.
This wine is very pleasant as an aperitif and also tastes great with sushi, trout, mussels and soft goat cheese.
Close to Stellenbosch, on the way to Paarl is Warwick Estate. This winery has a long history that originated in the year 1791. In the time between 1791 and 1920 it bore a different name and was called "Good Success". This name was changed by the then owner Alexander Gordon in Warwick to the Warwickshire regiment in which he served. In 1964 Stan and Norma Ratcliffe bought the estate and started planting Cabernet Sauvignon. At that time they sold the grapes and did not use them for their own production, although Norma wanted to. She studied wine making and a wine cellar was built. Warwick's first Vintage was 1984. Stan and Norma's son Mike has been at the helm of the company for several years. He is assisted in this by winemaker Louis Nel.
Warwick's wines are certified organic, which means that no fertilizers, chemical pesticides and pesticides such as herbicides are used. At Warwick they go a step further and determine the sun and moon phases, the harvesting and pruning work
