Cannonball California wines are sourced from select regions throughout California. The diverse microclimates, topography and soils provide the perfect palette to create wines that are complex, highly consistent and a pure expression of the varietal. The philosophy of the owners Dennis Hill and Yoav Gilat is completely in line with the name of their company and the image on the label. That refers to the inner child in all of us. In the eyes of Dennis and Yoav, wine is sometimes taken so seriously that we forget what it is all about: enjoyment. They take their wines very seriously. Dennis Hill is a winemaker with a long track record, making true American wines without becoming too heavy, too buttery and too woody.
The 2018 grape harvest was well balanced with a medium crop load, but smaller with looser trusses. Daytime temperatures during the frost season were average, but there were many unusually cold nights. Although the sugar accumulation progressed easily, the fruit was left hanging longer than usual to achieve the desired level of flavor. This vintage was easy to manage, the grapes had the right natural balance and were generous with exceptionally delicious flavours.
The 2019 Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon is dark carmine red in color and has aromas of dark cherries, caramel, mocha and wood spices. The taste is of red currant fruit with aromas of sweet oak, fresh cherries and dark berries. The mouthfeel starts with a firm body and has just enough texture and acidity to leave a long and flavoursome finish.
