The grapes for the Sauvignon Blanc Lehen come from the Lehen vineyard of the same name in Terlano at an altitude of 370 to 510 meters above sea level. The vines range in age from 14 - 93 years. Before pressing, the crushed grapes first undergo a cold soaking of the skins for about 6 hours. After pressing, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine matures sur lie for 9 months.
Beautiful straw yellow sparkles in the glass with a bit of yeast in the nose due to the long sur lie upbringing, grapefruit, peach, wet stones and white flowers. The wine is medium bodied and very well balanced with juicy and mineral notes. Flavorful with lots of fruit on the front and a fresh citric acidity. A delicious wine that will improve even further with some aging.
This sur lie matured Sauvignon Blanc is produced by the Italian winery Alois Lageder located in the wine region.
The winery in Alto Adige has some 50 hectares of its own vineyards, which are managed on the basis of biodynamic principles. The holistic approach of this winery is reflected in its wine-growing activities, its long-standing relationships with numerous grape growers and their ambition to create awareness for an agriculture in tune with nature. "We are not winemakers" says Alois Lageder, descendant of a family that has been passionate about wine for 4 generations. 'We see our role more as that of a midwife, coach and teacher. Our task is to accompany the grapes in good health and with the utmost care and to encourage the successful development of our wines in all respects.
