Very pleasant Riesling from a more than great terroir with a good price-quality ratio. The Aulerde vineyard is located on the south, descending to the village, and is a particularly favorite place for viticulture. Aulerde is a very old vineyard that can already be found in the books in the year 1380. Aulerde is the hottest location where the grapes ripen early. The core of Aulerde consists of heavy clay-like marl with small portions of loess loam and limestone, while the substrate consists of yellow and gravel-like, sandy clay. The vines on this site are almost 70 years old. This beautiful biodynamic Aulerde Riesling GG is produced by the famous winery Weingut Wittmann. The wine has nice yellow fruit on the nose and shows a stable, attractive terroirk character, pleasantly dried herb and dry, floral accents. The rich style extends to the mouth, where the character of the wine reflects its warmer vineyard. The acidity creates a spicy tension, and embodies the nature of this Aulerde - which by the way is a more playful vintage than ever before. Very nice as an aperitif. Also delicious with poultry, pork and fish. VDP Grosse Lage is the denominator for the very best German vineyards, which are precisely defined per plot. Unique wines with a special expression of the specific plot, a mature character and a great maturing potential are born here. Only the very best and specifically grape varieties that match the vineyard enjoy the privilege of being planted for this. The strictest possible production criteria guarantee the top of the VDP qualification pyramid. The

The first 3 months of 2017 were very dry and in February and March it was warm early, so the sprouting started 2 weeks earlier than normal. Between 20 and 24 April, however, there was frost again, which struck sharply and with that (before the real season was yet to start) stood at the basis of a small harvest. Candles were burned on a total of 2 hectares, which certainly helped to limit the loss. In May the beautiful weather that lasted until well into July was combined with occasional showers that kept the soil nice and humid. This made the flowering a week earlier than normal. Also in August the combination between summers meant beautiful and occasional showers, a great condition for ripening. Unfortunately, a large hailstorm came at the end of August that caused serious damage. Because it was dry for a long time afterwards, the grapes dried and there was no gray rot that could have skipped quickly. Due to strict selection (a huge job), bad grapes could be cut away. This made the harvest smaller than ever.

Weingut Wittmann is located in Westhofen in the Rheinhessen wine region and produces biodynamic wines with terroir expression and extreme precision. The Wittmanns and their ancestors have been winemakers in Westhofen since the 17th century. The experience of around 350 volumes of more than 15 generations is of great importance in the invaluable heritage of the family. Time and tranquility are essential ingredients for making a good wine. And this is precisely what the wines get in full in the vaulted cellar, built in 1829. Winemaker Philipp Wittmann watches over his wines, under constant temperature and humidity conditions, while they mature in 80 wooden barrels. The oldest of these barrels is from the year 1890 and already housed many large volumes. Each barrel contains the harvest of 1 single vineyard plot.
