In the summer of 2012, Radio-Coteau acquired a 42-acre Historic Estate Vineyard and ranch on a hill above the town of Occidental. Originally called Joseph Morelli & Sons before Prohibition, the Lemorel Winery (as it later became known) dates back to 1892, when the first vines were planted. The estate is 800 meters and has a very diverse agro-ecosystem established on the prized Goldridge soil. The old Syrah Zinfandel has been preserved and has recently replanted the existing acreage to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This winery is already one of the absolute top in California - Mendocino
The Zinfandel Lemorel is grown on the estate itself, 800 feet above sea level on a mountain ridge above Occidental. The grapes are grown organically, harvested by hand, fermented in the original way and bottled in-house. This Lemorel from Radio-Coteau is a beautiful expression of the unique character of a cool climate Zinfandel. Lemorel is a tribute to a pioneering family of winemakers, who, among other things, planted the first Zinfandel grapes on the American coast.
This red wine has been aged in wood for 22 months and then another year in the bottle. In the nose, this beautiful cool climate zinfandel has the typical Zinfandel nose; dark fruit and ripe black cherries, dried figs, raspberries and cranberry jam. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and spicy with hints of apricot. Furthermore, spicy, bitter chocolate and cinnamon - as a Zinfandel should be. Distinctive is the minerality, driven by high acids and structure.
Now the Lemorel Estate Zinfandel, vintage 2018 is "ready to rock".
