When all the forces in a winery are concentrated in a single drop, it should meet the highest quality standards. The Podere Orma with its eponymous wine fully lives up to this claim. After the fashion entrepreneur Antonio Moretti had already proven with his Tenuta Sette Ponti near Arezzo in the Chianti region that he could run a wine company with a lot of skill, he started the establishment in Castagneto Carducci in Bolgheri. Despite very small bottle production, the estate has long established a leading position among the 50 wineries in Bolgheri. In addition to its headquarters and branch in Bolgheri, the busy Moretti in Tuscany owns Poggio al Lupo (Maremma) and Feudo Maccari, a company in Sicily.
Orma means footprint and is supposed to embody the clearly defined requirements of independence and quality with which Moretti believes that the style of a top Bolgheir should meet. This wine, made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, is without a doubt already one of the modern classics from Bolgheri. As a direct neighbor of the Tenuta dell 'Ornellaia, the passionate winemaker has access to an almost identical terroir and thus also has a starting position bordering on perfection, which can be tasted in the glass. The Supertuscan Orma is pure power and elegance.
The Podere Orma vineyard is located not far from the sea on deep gravel and clay soils with little sand, an excellent subsoil in areas with a warm climate. The vines face southwest. The nearby Tyrrhenian Sea compensates for high temperature differences and provides a pleasant summer or mild winter climate.
The Podere Orma has a beautiful ruby red color in the glass. It opens the nose with plums, ripe cherries and fine spiciness. On the palate, the wine is full bodied, nicely ripe and fleshy material that accompanies the wine without becoming too heavy. In its youth still strong tannins so give 2-3 years to develop further and this is a wine that will remain in perfect (perhaps even better) condition for decades.
