Bodegas Cyan is located in the Toro and is part of the Gruppo Matarromera as they have a winery with Melior in the Rueda and with Carlos Moro (CM) a wine house in the Rioja and of course with Bodegas Matarromera located on the golden mile in the Ribera Del Duero. The Cyan wines come from the inhospitable Toro and come from vineyards situated on sandy soils where the grape louse, which destroyed almost all vines in the 19th century, was unable to strike so all vineyards are very old. At Cyan, as a 100% part of Matarromera, the same principles regarding sustainabaility apply, so here too the winery uses windmills, biomass and solar panels to generate more energy than it consumes.

The Cyan wines are one of the first top wineries in the Toro to be certified organic, and here too Matarromera's vision follows, which means that good wine comes from a good vineyard and does not need any artificial winery. The wines are made from the Tinta de Toro which is a Tempranillo grape variety that can survive well in the harsh climate (extremely hot and extremely cold). Very small grapes with a thick skin. The Cyan vineyards are all certified organic and are situated on a limestone plateau. The height and serious temperature differences between day and night make the wine for a Toro wine unprecedentedly fresh which is characteristic of the Cyan wines.

The Cyan is a 100% organically grown Tinta de Toro which has matured for 12 months in new oak barriques. The wine has a ruby red color with a purple hue in the glass. The Cyan crianza is a lively and expressive wine with fresh aromas of red currant, cherry, blackberry, but also finely roasted coffee, licorice and a hint of leather. On the palate the wine remains lively with sweet tannins, well combined with good acids that gives this full bodied wine a good freshness. In the aftertaste, a little toasted bread comes into the mouth and nose and the aromas linger for a long time. A delicious organic certified authentic quality wine with a more than excellent price / quality ratio.

Following the winemaking tradition of his Castilian ancestors, Carlos Moro made his dream come true and in 1988 founded the bodega Matarromera in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) with a clear goal in mind: the preparation of quality wines with the most advanced technology and thereby the take into account traditional preparation methods. The biggest challenge that Carlos Moro took was his choice of new barrels for maturing his wines, an initiative that was new in this region at the time. Another key to Matarromera's immediate success were the excellent vineyards in the middle of the "golden mile" of Ribera del Duero. Today, a quarter of a century later, Carlos Moro continues to design projects, and he continues to prepare more and more sophisticated wines. Matarromera's focus on quality wines comes from the vineyard itself. Thanks to the work started by Carlos Moro's ancestors, loving care for the vineyard has been a constant factor. No contagion in the Bodega but a good wine comes from a top vineyard.

At Grupo Matarromera, sustainability is very important and the Matarromera Group was chosen in 2007 by IESE [Institute of Higher Business Studies] as the most environmentally friendly organization in Spain. The winery is currently generating more energy than it uses. Every bodega of the Matarromera group is a sustainable building and designed to utilize natural lighting, to provide optimum insulation and to effectively use both rainwater and wastewater.
