Elvio Cogno is located on the top of Bricco Ravera, a hill near Novello in the Langhe area of Piedmont. This is one of the eleven municipalities where Barolo is produced. The cellar is located in an 18th-century country house, the farmhouse is surrounded by 11 hectares of vineyards. The Cogno family has been making wine in the Langhe area for 4 generations. The history and tradition were passed on by father Elvio and the innovation was introduced by his daughter Nadia and her husband Valter Fissore. And daughter Elena? Today, he is responsible for the sleek and stylish house style of the domain. Learned young, shall we say. They only grow indigenous grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nascetta.
The flagships of Elvio Cogno are the Ravera and Bricco Pernice coming from the historic vineyards of Ravera and are all among the best in the region. Ravera is in a beautiful amphitheater of vines. This is an absolutely classic vintage, solid and sturdy texture. The bouquet is already expression. It is full of dark fruit, smoke, spices and licorice. This Barolo shows all the qualities that guarantee a long and successful cellar evolution. Only 4,000 bottles were made of it. The wine has had a fermentation and maceration time of 40 days !! and ripens in peace in large Slavonian oak barrels for 30 months.
