The palate is textural with nutty, waxy characters and a broad mouth-feel, all beautifully balanced by stone fruit and a dash of citrus acidity on the finish. Producer Details This long established Veronese family company, headed by Giorgio Montresor, is producing wines which increasingly rival the offerings of the region's more fashionable names. The estate wines, from 100 ha of vineyards in Valpolicella and Garda, offer remarkable value for money, particularly the Capitel della Crosara vineyard near Negrar which produces fine, richly-flavoured Ripasso and a generous, classically-styled Amarone with great concentration and texture. In the Vineyard Montresor's Lugana Campo Valentino is made exclusively from Trebbiano di Lugana grapes cultivated on selected vineyards in the Lugana zone on the southern shores of Lake Garda. Only vineyards that are on relatively flat terrain with clay-calcerous soil are considered suitable. The grapes are hand harvested in September. In the Winery The grapes are softly pressed with a short maceration on the skins and fermented at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is actively prevented. The wine is matured for a few months in stainless steel before being bottled. Food Recommendations Ideal with light starters and nearly all fish dishes.
