Gravello is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Gaglioppo, it was the first red from Calabria to win the coveted Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso. It is deep red in colour, with a powerful perfume of cedar and cassis. The palate is extremely rich and complex with blackcurrant and blackberry fruits married to tobacco, spice and great concentration. The tannins provide great structure to the wine but are supple and ripe. The Librandi winery works with 230 hectares of vineyards around the Ciro' region on the south coast of Calabria. Although the company was founded in 1950, the family has been working with wine for centuries, steeped in a love of tradition. At the same time, the Librandi brothers are acutely aware of the benefits of technology and work closely with consultants and academics studying local varieties, clones and vineyard density. Their concentric vineyard, which looks like an alien crop circle (!), is just one example of this. The wines reflect the philosophy, with modern, clean, pure fruit, melded together with distinct local character. FOOD MATCHING NOTE :Best with red meat roasts, game, wild fowl, regional dishes served in terracotta bowls, tasty as well as ripe and spicy cheeses.
